Privacy policy

Last updated 6 September 2026

Go Able is a community-powered accessibility map for Aotearoa New Zealand. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Go Able website and related services.

Who we are

Go Able is operated from New Zealand. For privacy questions or requests, email goablecompany@gmail.com, or use the contact form on the About page.

Information we collect

You can browse the map without signing in.

  • Account details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google so we can create your Go Able profile.
  • Contributions. Places you add, reviews, star ratings, accessibility comments, and photos you upload. These are published on the map so others can use them.
  • Contact messages. If you send an enquiry, we receive the name, email, and message you provide.
  • Approximate location. If you allow it in your browser, we use your current location to centre the map or fill in a nearby address. We do not store your live location unless you submit a place at those coordinates.
  • Device preferences. Theme and accessibility settings (such as text size) stay in your browser.
  • Usage information. We use Vercel Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited.

How we use information

  • Run the map, trip planner, and related features.
  • Publish community accessibility information for public use.
  • Moderate submissions and keep the service safe and accurate.
  • Respond to enquiries and support requests.
  • Improve the site and understand what is working.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We use service providers to operate Go Able, including:

  • Hosting and analytics (Vercel).
  • Authentication and data storage (Supabase / Google sign-in).
  • Map tiles, geocoding, and routing (including OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap Nominatim, Overpass, and OpenRouteService).
  • Optional AI features, such as parsing a search, analysing an accessibility photo, or answering a question about a place. Those requests are sent to AI providers so the feature can work.

Public contributions — including place details, reviews, and photos — are visible to anyone who uses the site.

Cookies and local storage

If you sign in, we use cookies to keep your session. Your theme and accessibility preferences are stored locally in your browser so they persist between visits. You can clear these in your browser settings.

How long we keep information

Account details and public contributions are kept while they are needed to run the map. If you ask us to delete your account or a contribution, we will remove personal information we hold about you unless we need to keep it for legal reasons or because it is part of a published community record that cannot reasonably be taken down without affecting others.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can ask us to access or correct personal information we hold about you, and you can raise a privacy concern. Email goablecompany@gmail.com. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Children

Go Able is a general public map. If you believe a child has given us personal information that should not be here, please contact us and we will look into it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Go Able changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you are using the service under the revised policy.
